I found a spot at the end of a deserted office space—a natural wood desk with a mismatching extension that was shiny and black and that swivelled when it was unoccupied.
The desk was by the window and a pale light shone through and reflected off the extension.
Read moreI rotated the extension back and forth changing the angle to find the optimal position to settle on.
Just as I was ready to sit a woman came up alongside me.
‘Is this free?’ She asked.
‘Yes.’
Then I rotated the extension once more so that it formed an L I sat on the outer side of the junction and motioned the woman to sit on the inside.
We sat down on either side on the extension. We were only two feet away apart.
I observed the woman from my side of the extrusion and decided that she was in her early forties She wore a cream coloured dress. She had long blonde wispy hair tied back with a hair clip.
The woman placed her laptop on the desk. It was different from my older unfashionable chunky yellow colored computer. Hers was a tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard. Her nails were painted dark and she tap-tapped when she typed on her keyboard.
Then some workers came by. They looked like they were from the office and weren’t visitors like us.
‘Oh we shouldn’t be here,’ said the woman.
‘No I think we are good,’ I said hopefully.
I pointed at one of the workers.
‘He doesn’t need to be here.’
Another man set down his briefcase down on the wooden side of the desk. It was Paresh. I pointed at him.
‘And he definitely shouldn’t be here.’ I smirked at Paresh.
But the woman stood up to go anyway.
‘Well I must go,’ she declared.
The woman rounded the extension, I stood up. We hugged.
‘But I am Cindy,’ she said simply.
I was conscious of fair strands of hair that had escaped from her hair clip. Her body felt natural against mine. I wanted to follow her to another spot in the office. Or to see her again.
‘My name is Ren,’ I replied.
Cindy’s face was oblong and her nose was sharp in a pointy way that wasn’t typically my type.
‘Ren?’ She inquired.
‘Yes, Ren. R, E, N.’ I confirmed.
