Janet and I were going to the stores to do some holiday shopping. As we walked between the Christmas stands in the mall she had her hand on my shoulder.
Read moreJanet chatted away idly. She was quite chunky but amiable. Regardless, I’d always preferred her sister Amy so there was nothing doing, I thought.
The place was dim lit for a mall but there was quite a crowd all the same. I put my hand around her thick waist as we continued. It was a gesture of comfort, I thought, but it was then that Janet stopped.
“Well then, we might as well,” Janet said.
Janet turned to face me and pursed her lips into a tight wrinkled ‘O’. Her lipstick was reddish pink and shiny and then she kissed me.
It was not my intention to go there but she had lulled me into the position, or maybe I had lulled her?
We continued up the escalator, stood side by side in a tighter embrace, until we reached the second floor.
At the top of the escalator stood three of Janet’s friends. They were talking about Gaza.
Janet peeled away to talk to them. Is this where I wanted it to go?
I was on the left side of the bed because we were on holiday. But what could I write down the dream with? A pencil lay next to the lamp and I thought it would make noise. The writing wouldn’t be very clear. When I began to write I could already hear Siobhan stir because of the shuffle of the pencil across my composition book.
Then I remembered.
I put the book down and picked up my iPad to continue writing down the dream.
